Yet another case of reckless bus racing in Kolkata has resulted in an accident, raising serious concerns over road safety in the city. On Monday, a government and a private bus were reportedly racing near the busy junction of Pranabananda Sarani and Auckland Road in the Maidan police station area when one of the buses lost control and rammed into a road divider.
At the time of the accident, around 15 passengers were onboard the bus. The sudden jolt caused panic among the passengers, and five of them sustained injuries due to the impact. Fortunately, local residents and bystanders quickly rushed to the scene and helped in rescuing the injured individuals.
The injured were promptly taken to a nearby hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. According to medical staff, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening, but some victims suffered cuts, bruises, and shock from the sudden impact.
The police from Maidan station arrived at the location shortly after being informed. They have begun an investigation into the incident and are questioning the drivers of both buses to determine responsibility. CCTV footage from nearby traffic cameras is also being reviewed as part of the probe.
